In oil and gas, the scale often has to work where a spark isn’t allowed. Refineries, lube blending plants and gas bottling units weigh drums, IBCs, additives and finished packs in areas classified for flammable vapour, and the ordinary scale from the market simply can’t go there. Outside those zones the problems are the usual ones: tank stock, short packs, and weights copied by hand into a system.

What we need to know for a hazardous-area scale
Three things decide which scale can go into a classified area: the zone (how often a flammable atmosphere is present), the gas or dust group, and the temperature class. Send us those from your area classification drawing, along with the heaviest load and where the weight needs to go. We’ll recommend the model, confirm the certification for your area with the order, and tell you plainly if a standard scale placed just outside the zone would do the job for less.
Packs sold by volume, checked by weight
Engine oil, lubricants and many chemicals are sold in litres, but it’s far easier and more accurate to check the fill by weight. Knowing the density, a check weighing system tells you whether each pack holds its declared volume, and rejects the ones that don’t. It protects you against both short-fill complaints and the quiet cost of overfilling every pack a little.
