IQ OQ PQ Documents for Weighing Balances and Scales
We offer IQ, OQ and PQ documentation for weighing balances and scales. To enquire for your instrument, send the details listed at the end of this page.
These qualification stages are used mainly by pharmaceutical, food and other regulated quality-control laboratories.
What IQ, OQ and PQ mean for a weighing balance
IQ: Installation Qualification
IQ documents that the equipment was received and installed as specified.
OQ: Operational Qualification
OQ documents that the equipment works as intended across its operating range.
PQ: Performance Qualification
PQ documents that the equipment performs consistently in actual use.
For an audit, these stages provide evidence of installation, operation and consistent performance in use. These are the general meanings of the terms; ask us to confirm the contents available for your instrument and whether we can use your quality team’s format.
Qualification, calibration and Legal Metrology stamping are three different things
Calibration checks a scale against reference weights and records the result in a certificate. We arrange calibration certificates through NABL-accredited labs. We are not the accredited laboratory. We also supply test weights; include these in your enquiry if your procedure calls for checks with a known weight.
Legal Metrology verification and stamping is the Government’s legal check for scales used for trade. Qualification documents, calibration certificates and Legal Metrology stamping serve different purposes; one does not replace the others. See our calibration and Legal Metrology stamping service if you need these alongside qualification documents.
If you are still choosing an instrument
You can browse our precision and laboratory balances, laboratory scales and pharma QC instruments. Tell us the model you are considering and that you need qualification documents, so you can check availability before ordering.

What is the difference between IQ, OQ and PQ?
IQ documents that the equipment was received and installed as specified. OQ documents that the equipment works as intended across its operating range. PQ documents that the equipment performs consistently in actual use.
Is a calibration certificate the same as OQ or PQ?
A calibration certificate does not replace OQ or PQ evidence of operation and performance in actual use. Calibration checks a scale against reference weights and records the result in a certificate. We arrange calibration certificates through NABL-accredited labs.
Do I still need Legal Metrology stamping if I have IQ, OQ and PQ documents?
If your scale is used for trade, Legal Metrology verification and stamping is required. IQ, OQ and PQ documentation does not replace this Government legal check.
Can you prepare documents for a balance that was not supplied by HSCo?
Send the make, model and serial number, and ask us to confirm documentation availability for that balance.
How long does it take, and what does it cost?
Send the instrument details, your quality team's format and your audit date. Ask for the price and delivery schedule before ordering.
