Weighing records that hold up in court
A weight reported in a forensic case is only as strong as the proof that the balance was right that day. Check each balance daily with a certified weight close to the amounts you weigh, print the check from the balance itself, keep the weight’s certificate on file, and log any service or repair. When the defence asks how you know the balance was accurate, the answer is a folder, not a memory.
Equipping each forensic section
The chemistry and narcotics section needs balances, spectrophotometers and chromatography. Biology and DNA need centrifuges, microscopes, pipettes and cold storage. Physical evidence and documents need comparison and stereo microscopes and good lighting. Toxicology needs sample preparation, HPLC and GC. Planning the sections together avoids buying the same instrument twice and makes sure shared items like balances and fume hoods sit where every section can reach them.
