Weighing filters properly
Particulate results come down to the difference between a filter’s weight before and after sampling, often a few milligrams. Condition filters in the same humidity before both weighings, weigh them on an analytical or semi-micro balance in a draught-free spot, and handle them only with tweezers. A static charge on a filter can shift the reading, so an anti-static routine is worth the minute it takes.
From field sample to lab result
Most environmental results are lost in the field, not the lab: a sampler run at the wrong flow, a water sample left warm in a van, a filter touched by hand. Calibrate air sampler flow before each run, keep water samples cool and test them within their holding time, and label everything at the point of sampling. The lab can only be as good as what arrives at its door.
