Plastics are made from recipes measured in grams per kilo. Masterbatch, fillers and additives go into the virgin granule by weight, film and sheet are sold by weight and judged by thickness and GSM, and a moulded part that’s a few grams light usually means a short shot. Moisture in the granule shows up as bubbles in the product.

Part weight is your cheapest quality check
A moulded part’s weight tells you a lot for almost no cost. Short shots, voids and flash all change it, and a weight check catches them faster than a visual one. Weigh the first good parts to set a target, then check every part on a checkweigher or a sample every hour on a bench scale with over and under limits. When weights start creeping, look at the granule moisture and the barrel temperature before the rejects pile up.
Regrind and recycled content
Regrind and recycled granules are cheaper than virgin material, but only up to the ratio your product tolerates. Treat regrind like any other ingredient: weigh it into the blend on the same scale, stop the addition with a relay at its set weight, and record it. When a batch fails, the first question is usually how much regrind went in, and a weighed record answers it straight away.
