On a packing line, every gram you give away is profit you’ll never see. Fill a 500 g pack with 510 g and you’ve handed out two percent of your product free, pack after pack, all year. Fill it with 495 g and you’re breaking the law on the declared quantity. The whole game is filling close to the line without going under it, and that’s a weighing problem.

Where a packing line weighs, and with what
- Automatic filling – multi-head weighers feed VFFS, pouch, tray and doypack machines with accurate portions and little give-away.
- Bagging – filling scales fill 10 to 50 kg bags of grain, powder or granules.
- Hand packing – bench scales with over/under alerts or relay outputs, so the packer knows at a glance when the pack is right.
- After filling – checkweighers weigh every pack on the conveyor and push off anything outside limits.
- Labelling – weigh-and-label machines print the weight on each pack as it passes.
- Sealing and QC – impulse sealers, thickness gauges for film and GSM kits for board and paper.

Filling to final carton, one supplier
A packing line usually has a weigher from one maker, a checkweigher from another and hand-packing scales from a third, and the three never quite agree. HSCo supplies the weighing along the whole line and can tune it together.
- Matched to the pack, not the brochure. Pack weight, product type (powder, granule, piece, liquid), speed and pack style decide the machine.
- Kept at accuracy. Installation, annual maintenance, repairs, upgrades, operator training and the test weights to check it.
- Line data you can use. Weights, counts and rejects can go to a PC, your ERP or a dashboard over USB, RS-232, RS-485 or 4-20 mA.

Working out what give-away costs you
Take a line packing 1,000 packs of 500 g an hour, overfilling by an average of 5 g to stay safe. That’s 5 kg of product given away every hour, or about 40 kg a shift. Multiply by your product’s price per kilo and your shifts per year, and the number is usually larger than the price of a checkweigher or a multi-head weigher. A checkweigher lets you set the target closer to the declared weight because anything short is caught. A multi-head weigher narrows the spread so fewer packs are heavy in the first place.
Declared quantity and the Legal Metrology rules
Pre-packed goods sold in India must carry their net quantity, and the Legal Metrology rules allow only a small shortfall. A checkweigher with reject records is the simplest way to show that your line fills correctly, and scales used for these checks have to be verified and stamped. Ask us about stamping when you order.

It’s a combination weigher with 10 to 20 weigh heads. It picks the combination of heads that comes closest to the target weight and drops it into the packing machine, so each pack is accurate with little product given away.
It weighs every pack on the conveyor without stopping it and rejects any outside your limits. Short packs never reach customers, and you can fill closer to the declared weight.
