Weighing Scales for the Manufacturing Industry

Most factories weigh far more often than they realise. Raw material is weighed when it arrives, parts are counted by weight in stores, dies and moulds are weighed on the crane, and finished cartons are weighed before they’re sealed. Each of those is a place where a small error quietly turns into lost stock, a short shipment or a customer complaint.

Hindustan Scale Company (HSCo) has been making weighing equipment in Mumbai since 1955. Where a factory weighs, and with what

• Goods in – raw material, castings and bought-out parts are checked on platform scales or the weighbridge, so short supplies are caught at the gate and not on the line.
• Stores – counting scales count screws, washers and components by weight, far faster and more reliably than counting by hand.
• Production – crane and hanging scales for dies, moulds and assemblies; roller and ramp scales for trolleys and conveyor lines; load cells built into machines.
• Packing and dispatch – checkweighers catch cartons with a missing part, and pallet scales weigh the load in the forks while it’s being moved.
• QC and testing – tensile testing machines, drying ovens, precision balances and test weights for checking every scale in the plant.
