Grading prawns and fish by weight
Prawns and many fish are priced by size grade, usually counted as pieces per kilo. A grading scale does the sorting for you: you set up to 15 weight bands on the scale, and each piece placed on it shows which grade it belongs to. It’s faster than grading by eye and ends arguments between buyer and seller. For wet processing halls, choose the waterproof grading scale.
Keeping scales alive in salt water
Salt gets into switches, keypads and load cells, and that’s what kills most fish-trade scales. Use sealed waterproof models where they’re hosed down, rinse salt off with fresh water at the end of the day, keep the charger and indicator out of standing water, and don’t pressure-wash the underside of a platform scale. A stainless crane scale sealed to IP68 is the safest choice on a boat or jetty.
