An infantometer measures a baby’s length while the baby lies flat, which is how length is taken for newborns and infants who cannot yet stand. Where it is used

Taking an accurate reading
- Place the infantometer on a firm, flat surface.
- Lay the baby on the back, head touching the fixed end.
- Keep the legs straight, gently if needed; a second person helps.
- Slide the moving side until it rests against both heels, then read the scale at that edge.
