Cast iron weights, known in the trade as baat, are the heavy test weights used to check and calibrate weighbridges, batching plants and other heavy-duty scales. They are cast in iron, finished black and carry the maker’s name. Being the most economical kind of test weight, they are the practical choice when many kilograms are needed at once.
Why cast iron
- Economical at scale. Checking a weighbridge or a batching hopper can take hundreds of kilograms; cast iron is the least costly way to get there.
- Made for heavy work. Solid cast bodies stand up to handling on sites and yards.
- Marked with the maker. Each weight carries the manufacturer’s name.

Cast iron or stainless steel?
Use cast iron weights for heavy industrial scales where many kilograms are needed. For laboratory balances and precision scales, choose non-magnetic stainless steel calibration weights, or a classed weight box (E1 to M2).
