The HSCo ultrasonic distance meter measures room distances from 1.5 to 60 feet at the press of a button, and works out area and volume for you. It sends an ultrasonic pulse to the wall, times the echo and shows the distance on a backlit screen, while a laser pointer shows where you are aiming. It runs on batteries and fits in a pocket.

How it works
The meter sends ultrasonic waves to the surface you aim at, measures the time they take to reflect back, and converts that time into distance. For best results, aim at a flat, hard wall square-on, with nothing in between.
