We can upgrade a scale already in use with a replacement indicator or an added connection port. If your scale still suits your weighing work but needs to connect to another device, consider an upgrade before replacing it.

What can be added or replaced

  • A new weighing indicator: tell us why you want to replace the current indicator and what the replacement must do.
  • RS232, RS485 or USB: send the connection details of the PC or printer you want to use.
  • Bluetooth or Wi-Fi: send the phone or network details and the app or software name.

Not every scale can take every port. Send the make, model and a photo of the indicator so we can tell you what is possible for yours.

Connecting to your PC, printer, phone or ERP

We build the connection around your system, including any output format your software already reads. The output format is how the weight data is presented to the receiving software.

To connect a weighing scale to a computer, send the software name and a sample of the data it accepts. For ERP (enterprise resource planning) or billing software, ask your software person for this sample.

Cable length and relays are made to order. A relay is a switch that controls another device; tell us what it needs to operate and when.

Stamping after a port is fitted

When we fit a port to a scale in use, we arrange Legal Metrology re-verification where required.

Upgrade or buy a new scale?

If your capacity or weighing work has changed, or the scale needs substantial repair, ask for both figures: the upgrade and a suitable new scale. Compare them before deciding.

Can you add RS232, connect a printer or send readings to a phone?

Not by itself. A port changes how the weight is sent, not how it is measured. If your scale reads wrong, tell us the problem and the model; it may need a repair or calibration as well as the upgrade.
