RS485 weighing scale: questions buyers ask
An RS485 weighing scale sends its weight to a PLC, SCADA system or industrial PC over a serial link made for long cable runs and several scales on one line. HSCo fits RS485 to platform scales, crane scales, tank weighing systems and custom builds, in plain weight text or Modbus RTU, whichever your controller expects.
The RS485 standard allows cable runs of about 1,200 metres, which is why it is the link for a scale in one shed and a control panel in another. The practical distance depends on the cable, the speed and the termination, so tell us the run; HSCo specifies the cable, fits the termination and sets the speed to match.
Yes. RS485 supports several devices on one line; the standard allows up to 32. Addressing and polling depend on the protocol, not on RS485 alone, so HSCo sets the output and, where needed, the device addresses to match your controller. Tell us how many scales you need to connect and which PLC or PC will read them.
Whichever your PLC expects. Modbus RTU and plain weight text are the options, and there is no fixed default protocol. Send the controller requirements and we set the baud rate, parity, stop bits and data format to suit. If you need Modbus, tell us the register layout your programmer expects.
Any HSCo scale can be built with RS485 or upgraded to it.
